Georgia Building Authority
The Georgia State Finance & Investment Commission retained Raymond Engineering to design a new roof for their building located in the heart of downtown Atlanta. The challenges with this project included getting the project done without impacting legistative operations, dealing with limited access, and the removal of a large chiller system and support structure. A wide range of roof systems were considered, but the final design was a protected membrane assembly which allowed the contractor to quickly remove the existing built-up foor and proceed immediately to membrane installation.
GSFIC was forced to change the scope of the project several times due to the budget constraints. As the project was nearing completion, the roofing contractor filed for bankruptcy protection, which delayed completion as the Surety took over the work.
To resolve the fumes issue, a three-ply torch-applied modified between membrane and flashing system was selected, which eleminated the need for kettles.
